  • Bridging people through technology? Reducing one’s involvement in their own community?

A question asked by the New York times that everyone should think about, “does technology make us more alone?”. With the rise of the internet our norms as a society are experiencing a great shift. The transfer of information and of experiences are easily passed on from one place to another at any date or time, relationships can be created online, places can be visited virtually, rallies can be created through the web ,and people can be brought to ruin with a single like or a single comment.

Technology has changed the way we function as a society – they say it has the ability to connect people and to connect the world. While it is true that the internet and social media has aided us through our every day’s we also can’t deny the negative effects that it somehow brings to our lifestyles and our thoughts.

Some forget the superficiality of the virtual world. Likes and hearts in social media can control lifestyles and feed or reduce egos, can control one’s personality, and can degrade one’s confidence. We believe in the realities that social media shows us, make judgments and sometimes destroy lives with the words we post. The screen works as a barrier that often makes people think lightly of their actions, becomes a portal to the world of our dreams and nightmares and of the fictional realities presented before us.

Sometimes people forget the people and the things in their immediate surroundings – those that really matter, the problems of your family, the problems of your community, and your own personal struggles. The screen and your best memory foam mattress 2019 become your friends and sometimes your only company.

This is an era of deliverable food, instant information online, instant friends, and sometimes superficial relationships. Do not think of the internet as a portal that leads you through worlds, think of its as a ticket or a guidebook that would help you get out and enjoy the world physically, that would help you gain understanding of the roads you are currently traversing and are to traverse in the future, that would help you interact with the world and planet you were born in.

Get off your bed, leave the doors of your apartment, involve yourself with the world outside, improve the relationships you already have or perhaps had made online – the internet gives you knowledge and opportunities, but experiences and wisdom comes from the world outside your screens.
